New Mexico Requirements as a Host State

The NM BON does not have statutory authority to oversee APRN programs. Interested programs are encouraged to discuss state requirements with the NM Higher Education Department.

Exception to the NM NPA regarding RN students furthering education:

New Mexico Nursing Practice Act [NMSA 1978 61-3]. 
61-3-29. Exceptions.  The Nursing Practice Act shall not apply to or affect: […] 
I. any registered nurse holding a current license in another jurisdiction who is enrolled in a professional course requiring nursing practice as a part of the education program.

Licensure: On-ground faculty/preceptors must have the legal authority to practice as APRNs in NM. Distance faculty/preceptors are not currently required to hold APRN licenses in NM.
