Montana Requirements as a Host State

Montana Board of Nursing only approves pre-licensure programs; there are no MT BON requirements for an APRN program to be offered to students in our state, except that of licensure of faculty that are directly involved in patient care.  Providing patient care can be by direct hands on methods or through teleconferencing.  Instructors who are consulting with the student and preceptor about the learning experience and are not providing direct patient care do not need a MT nursing license.

Licensure: Any out-of-state faculty member who is involved in the direct care of a patient in Montana must hold an unencumbered Montana APRN license and a Montana RN license/multistate compact RN license.  The APRN student must hold an unencumbered Montana RN license or a multistate compact RN license.
