NCSBN Board of Directors

Between annual meetings of the Delegate Assembly, an eleven-member, elected Board of Directors is charged with overseeing implementation of policy and directing the activities of NCSBN.

Myra Broadway, JD, MS RN, President

Myra Broadway is the Executive Director of the Maine State Board of Nursing. She was previously the Vice President from 2007-2010 and the Area IV director from 2003-2007. During her tenure, Broadway served as board liaison to both the Examination and Commitment to Ongoing Regulatory Excellence Committees. She served as a director-at-large from 2000-2002 when she was board liaison to Commitment to Excellence and Model Rules subcommittee.

Shirley Brekken, Vice President

Shirley Brekken, MS, RN, Vice President

Shirley Brekken is the Executive Director of the Minnesota Board of Nursing. She has served on twelve NCSBN Committees/task forces as either chair or committee member. She has also previously served as Area II Director, when she was involved in the implementation of computer adaptive testing for the NCLEX.

Julia George, Treasurer

Julia George, MSN, RN, FRE, Treasurer

Julia George, MSN, RN, FRE, executive director, North Carolina Board of Nursing, was appointed treasurer in February 2011.She served as the Area III director from 2007-2011 and is a Fellow of the NCSBN Institute of Regulatory Excellence. George served on the NCSBN Resolutions Committee from 2002-2003 and the NCSBN Practice, Regulation & Education Committee from 2003-2004.

Susan K. Odom PhD, RN, CCRN, FRE; Chair, Idaho Board of Nursing; previously served on Faculty Qualifications Committee, Innovations in Education Regulation Committee, and Institute of Regulatory Excellence Committee.

Lanette Anderson, JD, MSN, RN, executive director, West Virginia State Board of Examiners for Licensed Practical Nurses, previously served on the NCSBN Transition to Practice Committee from 2009-2010 and the NCSBN Commitment to Ongoing Regulatory Excellence Advisory Panel from 2004-2006.

Katherine Thomas

Katherine Thomas, MN, RN, Area III Director

Katherine Thomas is the Executive Director of the Texas Board of Nursing. She served on the Board of Directors as Director at Large from 2009-2012 and was board liaison to the committee that developed the Substance Use Disorder Guidelines and the committee that developed the Uniform License Requirements. She chaired several advanced practice registered nurse advisory committees from 1995-2007 and represented NCSBN on the Joint Dialogue Group who developed the APRN Consensus Model (2007-2008). She also served on the Awards Panel (2002-2003) and the Bylaws Committee (2012- 2013). 

Ann OSullivan, Area IV Director

Ann L. O’Sullivan, PhD, FAAN, CRNP, board member, Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing, previously served on the NCSBN Advanced Practice (APRN) Committee from 2007-2011 and was chair of that committee from 2008-2011.

Betsy Houchen, Director-at-Large

Betsy Houchen, JD, MS, RN, Director-at-Large

Betsy Houchen, JD, MS, RN, Executive Director of the Ohio Board of Nursing, has served two previous terms as the Area II director on the NCSBN Board of Directors and has been the Board liaison to several NCSBN Committees: CORE, Model Act and Rules, and Distance Learning. She is the 2013 recipient of the R. Louise McManus Award.

Nathan Goldman

Nathan Goldman, JD, Director-at-Large

Nathan Goldman is the General Counsel for the Kentucky Board of Nursing. He has served on several NCSBN committees, most recently as chair of the Model Act and Rules Committee and the Bylaws Committee.

Joe_Baker 

Joe Baker, Jr.

Joe Baker, Jr., was appointed as the Executive Director of the Florida Board of Nursing in April 2010. Joe has served as the chief administrative officer for numerous health care regulatory boards in Florida since 1995. An appointee to the NCSBN Nursing Education Committee from 2010-12, he was elected as a Director-at-Large to the NCSBN Board of Directors in August 2012. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Florida Southern College in 1985.

  

Gloria Damgaard, MS, RN

Gloria Damgaard is the Executive Director of the South Dakota Board of Nursing. She has served on various committees, including Resolutions, Elections, Nursys Business Design, and CORE. She also served as a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact Executive Committee for four years and as Chair for an additional four years
