As board liaison, Smith brought her background in substance use disorders and mental health to the committee. “I saw the duties of my role as, one, to help focus the group on the charges, and two, to relay back to the Board how the committee was doing, to serve as a conduit of information. I remember in our first meeting, everyone was a bit overwhelmed.
