The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) produces publications, online courses and videos that contribute to the body of nursing knowledge. This publication provides a brief overview of how Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT) works, how the passing standard is set, and how the pass/fail decision is made at the beginning. The main part of the publication is a detailed breakdown of candidate performance for 2022 and includes the pass rates by candidate type, degree type and country.

As part of this process, many of the state boards review their schools’ annual pass rates of first-time NCLEX-RN candidates and compare these percentages to state regulations.
