Cindy's husband Joe is having trouble coping with his wife's ©2013 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. All rights reserved. 4 illness. Wanting to comfort Joe, Katie has drifted from conversations with him outside his wife's room to having coffee with him in the hospital cafeteria. Now, Joe is calling Katie at home and posting comments on social media, saying she's the only person who really understands what he's going through. Uncertain what to make of the situation, Katie talks to her nurse manager, who helps Katie understand that while her intentions are good, her actions constitute inappropriate over-involvement with a patient's family.

A_New_Framework_for_Practice_Academic_Partnerships.pdf
Ten key nursing organizations, along with repre- sentatives of BONs, developed and have formally en- dorsed this model (see Organizations That Developed and Endorsed the Practice–Academic Partnership). The endorsing organizations have also widely dis- seminated information about the practice–academic partnership model to their members and beyond us- ing different media strategies, including social media, a video, a national webinar, and newsletters. Addi- tionally, the NCSBN developed free online COVID-19 courses students may take before participating in the practice–academic partnership.16 A key component of the partnership model is that students are considered essential workers, not visitors, in the health care setting.

InFocus_Fall_2020.pdf
The enumeration of these issues does not even address the stress, anxiety and depression arising out of caring for severely ill patients, the escalating COVID-19 death rate, and the fear of contracting the illness or infecting their own loved ones. As more than one nurse on social media ironically exclaimed, “When they said it was the ‘Year of the Nurse’ nobody told me it was going to be like this!” It has become rather cliché to refer to nurses as being on the “front lines” of health care but it is hardly an exaggeration to say that they are on the tip of the spear in fighting this pandemic.
