    The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide an organization through which boards of nursing act and counsel together on matters of common interest and concern affecting the public health, safety and welfare, including the development of licensing examinations in nursing. NCSBN's 2026 Environmental Scan is now available for free in the Journal of Nursing Regulation (JNR). The Environmental Scan provides a comprehensive overview of the health care landscape with a specific focus on nursing and regulation, helping them to strategically plan for the year ahead. In addition to nursing regulators, the Environmental Scan is also valuable to educators, employers, researchers and policymakers.

  • NCLEX Fee Changes Feb. 1 | NCSBN

    The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide an organization through which boards of nursing act and counsel together on matters of common interest and concern affecting the public health, safety and welfare, including the development of licensing examinations in nursing. At its recent Annual Meeting, NCSBN's Delegate Assembly voted to adjust the registration fees for the NCLEX. Effective Feb. 1, 2027, the NCLEX registration fee will be $350 in the United States and Australia. In Canada, the fee will be $570 (CAD). This is the first adjustment to the NCLEX registration fee since 2000. The change reflects 25 years of inflation and rising costs associated with exams, data protection and cybersecurity.

The  British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives  was awarded the Regulatory Achievement Award that recognizes the member board or associate member that has made an identifiable, significant contribution to the mission and vision of NCSBN in promoting public policy related to the safe and effective practice of nursing in the interest of public welfare.

  • NCSBN Launches 2026 Nursing Workforce Survey | NCSBN

    The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide an organization through which boards of nursing act and counsel together on matters of common interest and concern affecting the public health, safety and welfare, including the development of licensing examinations in nursing. The survey will run through September 2026. NCSBN’s last study in 2024 revealed that the U.S. nursing workforce showed some signs of recovery post the COVID-19 pandemic, but long-term stability remained uncertain. The study found that 39.9% of RNs and 41.3% of LPN/VNs reported an intent to leave the workforce or retire within the next five years.

About the ICNLCA The ICNLCA facilitates cross border nursing practice through the implementation of the nationally recognized, multistate license, the NLC. The ICNLCA enhances nurse mobility and public protection through maintaining uniform licensure standards among party state boards of nursing; promoting cooperation and collaboration between party states, facilitating the exchange of data and information between party states; and educating stakeholders.

Along with a variety of presentations and activities, NCSBN hosted an exciting keynote speech from Elizabeth Iro, RN, chief nursing officer at the World Health Organization. She was formerly the Cook Islands’ Secretary of Health and chief nursing officer and acting director, Hospital Health Services.
