So, this clarifies the duty to practice under the nurse practice act in the state of practice. And finally, Article VI (d) allows all the compact states to share current significant investigative information and participation in non-public or confide ...

This is particularly important when we look at the role of nurses in the delivery of vaccines. Nurses have always been a key part of vaccine campaigns, not only in public health campaigns, vaccine distribution and administration, but by providing information and support for communities and individuals who are hesitant and unsure about the safety of vaccine. We have had many examples of the nurses' role in vaccine distribution since the very first cholera vaccines were administered in the late 1880s.

The PMP InterConnect, if you're a practitioner here today and work with an electronic medical record system, and you'd had a one-click access to that patient's prescription monitoring program data, that is what PMP InterConnect is driving behind the scenes that you have access to that information. And how does that translate into time saved from data collection and time spent with that patient? Again, 40 states today are either active or pursuing this type of integration with EMR systems, and half of those states are actually paying for those integration costs.

In the United States Senate, a bill similar to this bill has been introduced with an amendment to address the nursing concerns that would essentially give them an exemption from this per-country cap and relieve some of that burden, but it, unfortunately, has not moved forward. I should note NCSBN has not taken a position on this bill. We're monitoring so that we can give you all the best information as I know many of you are being reached out to by staffing firms wondering about different issues related to foreign-educated nurses. We've also been monitoring a number of trade deals. Some of you probably saw that last fall, the USMCA was passed into law in the U.S. which is the updated version of NAFTA.

And while time does not allow me to play that video clip, I did want to highlight that, you know, Mary has been really an advocate in her state, mobilizing APRNs and others to look at removal of unnecessary restrictions within their state. They started in 2016 with really trying to raise awareness of legislatures. They have weekly visits to the legislature that Mary helps to lead and take others down. They take information flyers, with take-home messages. They really have helped to be able to showcase to the legislators the importance of removing APRN barriers, and they feel they'll be successful. This next session, they have over 100 legislators that have now signed on to their bill.

Education of consumers, education of legislators, education of health professionals, research and data collection, support for legislative and regulatory guardrails, advocacy, all things that nurses do so well. The other policy issue I want to bring to your attention are the health effects of climate change. Thomas Jefferson, the scientist, was an early meteorologist. He collected weather information, temperature, and wind direction twice a day every day. It was cold back then. Monticello had an ice house where blocks of ice from the Rivanna River would be collected, stored in cool underground ice house, covered with straw, and used for cooling much or all of the ensuing year.

I have this idea, what would I do? - So it's a great question. Most of our partnerships, our clients are hospitals. So we then become a resource available to nurses at that hospital. But to your point, if we're not at the hospital, what do you do? So our website has our contact information, so makernurse.com or makerhealth.co. Visit the website and contact us because, in addition to those institutional partnerships, we love to support nurses who ©2018 National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. All r

In  addition,  it  is  important  to  remember  that   grandfathering  is  an  individual  process  for  each  state,  so  eligibility  requirements  for   practice  may  vary  state  by  state.    Employers  also  may  establish  new  or  separate   requirements  for  professionals  granted  credentials  to  practice  in  that  facility.    For  more   information  about  grandfathering,  see  the  Consensus  Model  report  (p.  14).     13. This is especially important for executive officers who understand the value of encouraging staff to run. “I’m not a nurse/I’m not a regulator.” We need people from different backgrounds and skillsets to see different sides of issues. We have many leaders who are from different fields, like law and information technology, who have made invaluable contributions. “It’s for other boards/It’s only for executive officers.” All nursing regulatory bodies are encouraged to participate. We need people from across the membership and encourage any leader to run.
