One of the things that is really changing that particular aspect of our field is the electronic chain of custody. And so from the collection site where you've got the original driver's license or the medical record, or what have you, you can either scan in the information or type it in with a good, you know, visible ID. And so that's a really key thing because we got to make sure that the information's tied to the right sample, right? The second thing as far as errors in the lab, right? You know, drug testing is a human endeavor.

The literature indicates that Medicaid coverage of buprenorphine, availability of education materials, and access to mentors are among the factors that support physician involvement in medication treatment and we wanted to see what factors might be specific to nurse practitioners. For the quantitative part of our study, we used two main data sources. First, we obtained state-level counts of waivered clinicians from SAMHSA, the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration, through a Free ...

And I might add that these groups haven't been overly supportive of the compact to begin with, but at the state level, those APRN groups are very supportive and have tried to help the compact get passed but ran into the same issues as us. The one thing that they did request also was that we change the language from National Examination back to a National Certification Examination. Staff always explained medications, 68.8% of patients agreed with that, and increased slightly when there were three or more nurse practitioners to 62.3%. And when patients were asked if staff provided information on recovery at home, 47.7% of patients agreed with that. That increased to 51.4% if there were 3 or more nurse practitioners on a unit. So, we just wanted to know is there a difference in terms of screening. And to do this, we used a cross- sectional design. And so we used a large survey of nurse practitioners who were working between 2015, 2016. We also merged that data with the SKNA physician database, which allows us to get information about the practices where NPs are working. So, NPs give us the addresses where they're working. SKNA tells us about how many people work in the practice, what are the NPIs of the providers, what type of setting is this, how large or how volume do they accept Medicaid.

Jeff, over here at front. - [Woman 2] Hi, I did the CBC process which included the... from the regulatory perspective and what we have to go through on our end and their end. Because they have to submit a lot of documents and it's very sensitive information, so that's a lot of work and interaction with that from their perspective and ours that we have to look at. - And so do you think there's some ideas or areas to...? - Definitely, yes. - And done well, I think this process can also help to identify internal efficiencies, not everything has to be about a direct relationship.

And many of us commented that we had been through so many painful strategic planning meetings in our lifetimes, that it was really a pleasure. And if you remember, following that, you all got surveys, we were surveyed, you gave input, staff was involved. And all of that information was then kind of coalesced. And the Board of Directors got a verbal report in December, and we got a written report to look at and react to in February. Overall, I would tell you, we're really pleased. I think there's a lot of alignment in the organization, and we really saw that with the responses to the survey and to what our thinking was at the time.
