The study focused on collecting both qualitative and quantitative data from a diverse set of RN job experts about the requirements of the job, leveraging multiple data collection methods and focusing on essential aspects of the RN practice.

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) produces publications, online courses and videos that contribute to the body of nursing knowledge. This publication analyzes entry-level licensed practical/vocational (LPN/VN) nurse practice in the U.S., including the relevance of clinical judgment in the performance of nursing activities. Because changes can occur in LPN/VN practice, practice analyses are conducted on a three-year cycle. 2025 | Exams Research 2024 RN Practice Analysis: Linking the NCLEX-RN Examination to Practice The periodic performance of practice analysis (i.e., job analysis) studies assists NCSBN in evaluating the validity of the NCLEX-RN test plan, which guides content distribution of the licensure examination.
