Additionally, it also impacted simulation and skills lab hours because of social distancing requirements in many states. Direct care clinical hours have been decreasing over the years. See Table 3 for 2010 and 2017 data from an NCSBN national sample (Smiley, 2019), as compared to 2020-21 data from the Annual Report database. One answer could be that programs are using more simulation to replace direct care clinical hours.
