    These BONs represent the 50 states; District of Columbia; four U.S. territories (Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa and the U.S. Virgin Islands); three states, California, Louisiana, and West Virginia, that have separate registered nurse (RN) and licensed practical/vocational nursing (LPN/VN) BONs; and one state, Nebraska, that has separate RN and advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) BONs. Nursing leaders and public members in each jurisdiction comprise the BONs whose mission is to ensure the public is receiving safe and competent nursing care.

    We submitted our survey to deans and directors of RN and LPN prelicensure programs in the U.S. between July and August 2020. The RN study was completed in July, while our LPN/VN study was completed in August, hence why you'll notice there is an added dimension to our LPN/VN survey. What originally prompted our primary research question was as a result of COVID-19 pandemic, states allowed some flexibility on clinical hours completed in simulation and a shift towards online instructional formats.

As we all know that substance use disorder is the leading cause for disciplinary actions in nursing.

    - That's an interesting question. I don't know if I've ever received that one before. So I think one of the biggest differences between the two exams is they're developed for two different areas. So as you heard earlier in the day, we perform the practice analysis, which is an analysis of practice of entry-level nurses for that associated area. So for the REx, it's an analysis of entry-level nurses in BC and Ontario. And for the NCLEX-PN, it's an analysis of practice for PNs, practical and vocational nurses in the United States.
