NCSBN published two brochures to help nurses understand the importance of patient privacy to prevent nurse practice act violations and the resulting disciplinary process. Violating a patient’s confidentiality via social media or their privacy through inappropriate professional boundaries can also lead to disciplin- ary action. A Nurse’s Guide to Professional Boundaries and A Nurse’s Guide to the Use of Social Media are popular resources used by BONs, nurse educators and nursing facilities to educate nurses on the importance of patient privacy and confidentiality laws.
