The Unique Nurse Identifier (UNI) PROVIDES SAFETY FOR PATIENTS AND NURSES Linking a permanent and unique ID with a nurse reduces the risk of health care fraud, optimizes the nurse’s expertise and achievements across health care systems, and protects the nurse’s personally identifiable information (PII). A UNI is a distinct digital representation of the nurse’s identity throughout many computer systems. The NCSBN ID and NPI can work together. Both identifiers offer different insights around the value of nurses’ work. The NPI provides data that show how health systems structure payment and investment decisions made about the health care workforce.

STEP 2 Upon issuance of a MSL in the new PSOR, the board of nursing (BON) will send a speed memo to the former PSOR BON, notifying them of the issuance and that the former license be made “not active” and the expiration date should reflect the date the change was made. STEP 3 • The BON in the former PSOR makes the MSL “not active” in their licensing system, • It then transfers information to Nursys. • The BON notifies the nurse of the change made to the status of the license. • The license expiration date is also changed in their licensing system. • This is then transferred to Nursys and should reflect the date the change was made.
