The National Nursing Education Database is the first ever nursing education database providing sophisticated statistical analyses of U.S. nursing education programs.

Database Features

  • Provides an in-depth look at how different characteristics impact the performance of U.S. nursing education programs.
  • Includes information about the program makeup, students, faculty and program directors.
  • Shows how key quality indicators impact programs and how programs compare with each other.
  • Allows filtering by degree, geography, ownership and enrollment to better understand the impacts of each.

How is the Data Compiled?

The database displays aggregate data from the 2022 Annual Report Program Core Survey. The National Nursing Education Database will continue to evolve as new survey data is added annually.

Annual Report Program

During the evidence-based nursing education approval guidelines research project, NCSBN found nursing regulatory bodies (NRBs) weren't collecting data in the same way for the same time periods, making accurate research difficult. The Annual Report Program stemmed from a comprehensive research study NCSBN conducted between 2017-2020 to identify quality indicators of approved nursing education programs and the warning signs that a program may be falling below required approval standards. The results of that research were published in the Journal of Nursing Regulation (JNR) in July 2020.

The Annual Report Program aims to provide consistent, verified data for participating NRBs, decreasing the work NRBs need to do on their annual reports by as much as 80%.  The National Nursing Education Database also helps visualize the data.

Program Participation

Participation in the Annual Report Program is easy. NRBs provide a logo and any additional questions they wish to include and NCSBN does the rest. Participating NRBs also receive a PDF of their survey results and their raw data in an Excel file.

If your NRB would like to participate, please submit an inquiry to request more information.
